2006-07 Skyline Conference Swimming & Diving Championship Results
KINGS POINT, N.Y. - Junior Jay Carpenter won three individual events to lead the United States Merchant Marine Academy to its eighth consecutive Skyline Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championship title.
Carpenter, who was named Co-Swimmer of the Meet, set three meet records in winning the 50-yard breaststroke (27:06), the 100-yard individual medley (56.38) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.60).
As a team, USMMA compiled 210 points, cruising to victory over second-place Stevens (51). Maritime (38) finished third, Old Westbury placed fourth (35) and Mount Saint Mary finished fifth (34). The Mariners won 11 of the 16 events.
Nine records also fell in the meet. SUNY Old Westbury freshman Yury Zimarev, who was named Co-Swimmer of the Meet along with Carpenter, also won three individual events while setting records in all three. Zimarev captured the 100-yard butterfly (52.99), the 50-yard freestyle (21.70) and the 50-yard butterfly (24.13). He also broke the 50-yard freestyle mark again (21:39) while leading off the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Mount Saint Mary College junior Matt Peters was also an individual winner, capturing the 200-yard individual medley in 2:08.60. Stevens senior Vadim Gordin won the 100-yard backstroke in 57.34. Along with Zimarev, Peters and Gordin were the only swimmers not from USMMA to win individual events.
For Merchant Marine, David Scarberry (500-freestyle, 200-freestyle) and Mickey Hand (1-meter diving, 3-meter diving) also won two events each. Each individual winner and winning relay team earned All-Skyline Conference honors.
USMMA freshman Stephen Ingvoldstad, who earned 16 individual points, earned Rookie of the Meet honors. Hand was selected as Diver of the Meet while the USMMA coaching staff was selected as Coaching Staff of the Year.
