Stevens dominates field in capturing Skyline Women's Swimming & Diving Championship

2006-07 Skyline Conference Swimming & Diving Championship Results

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - Stevens Institute of Technology won 13 of 16 events in capturing its first Skyline Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championship in four years.  The Ducks, who finished with 118 team points, ended the three-year reign of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, which placed second with 99 points.

The only events that Stevens didn't win were the 1- and 3-meter diving events - the Ducks have no divers - and the 200-yard freestyle relay, the final event of the afternoon.

The Ducks had four swimmers share Swimmer of the Meet honors by winning three events each.  Senior Lorrie Brabender, who won the 100-yard freestyle (58.25), the 100-yard buttlerfly (1:01.47) and the 50-yard butterfly (28.17), set meet records in both butterfly events.

Stevens Sophomore Nicole Ogrosso won the 500-yard freestyle (5:46.22), the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.88) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.47).  Fellow sophomore Emily Woo captured the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.07), 50-yard backstroke (30.70) and the 50-yard freestyle (26.95).  The fourth Stevens swimmer to win three events was freshman Stephanie Miller who captured the 50-yard breaststroke (35.59), the 100-yard individual medley (1:09.80) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:19.78).

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy won both diving events with junior Jackie Peterson winning the 1-meter board (174.75) and senior Sarah Christenson capturing the 3-meter event (160.50).  The Mariners also won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:56.58.

Merchant Marine freshman Gina Gottschalk, who compiled 14 individual points, earned Skyline Rookie of the Meet honors.  Christenson took home Diver of the Meet honors while Stevens Institute of Technology was recognized as the women's Coaching Staff of the Year.
