RIVERDALE, N.Y. – In the spirit of giving this holiday season the College of Mount Saint Vincent men's volleyball program is running a fundraiser to make a cash donation to the Blythedale Children's Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y. The team will make its donation to the hospital during 95.5 WBLJ's fundraiser on December 22.
This is the first year that the team has conducted the fundraiser and head coach Tom Callahan thought it was important for a number of reasons and wanted to stress that his team could help those less fortunate during the holiday season.
"I thought it was a good way to bring the team together while remaining cognizant of those that are less fortunate during this time of year," the team mentor said.
The team is raising money for the hospital in any number of ways, from concession stands at home basketball games, to petitioning student government for donations, to putting donation bottles in the cafeteria and residence halls. Some team members have even gone door-to-door asking for donations to help out.
To date, the team has collected nearly $700 of its $1,000 goal for the event. On December 22 the team along with Callahan will head to the WBLJ event at the hospital to make its donation. The fundraiser will be aired live from 6-10 a.m.
"I think it's important for student-athletes to understand that success means more than victories on the court, it's also demonstrating good citizenship and strong character," stated Callahan.
The fundraiser began at the end of November and will run through December 19. If you would like to help the Men's Volleyball team with a donation you can contact a team member of email Callahan at tom.callahan@mountsaintvincent.edu.
