Bard captures inaugural Skyline Conference Men's Volleyball Championship

Skyline Championship: Bard def. Mount Saint Vincent 3-0 (30-26, 30-24, 30-28)

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Senior outside hitter Zachary Hamaker recorded 16 kills, 12 digs and five total blocks in leading Bard College to a 3-0 (30-26, 30-24, 30-28) victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the championship match of the Skyline Conference Men's Volleyball Tournament.  In capturing the inaugural Skyline Men's Volleyball Championship, the Raptors picked up their first Skyline title in their first year as a member of the conference.

Hamaker, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, hit .424 (16-2-33) and also recorded three service aces.  Bard also received 12 kills from freshman Elijah Strauss and 11 kills from freshman Brice Ormesher.

Mount Saint Vincent hung tough despite the absence of injured starter T.J. Pufahl.  Freshman Ryan Vogel recorded a team-leading 18 kills while freshman David Guerrero had 17 kills.

Bard, the top seed in the tournament, had no trouble with fourth-seeded Purchase in the first semifinal match of the day.  The Raptors cruised to a 30-19, 30-17, 30-14 victory over the Panthers.  Hamaker was nearly flawless, hitting .615 (9-1-13).  Junior outside hitter Henry Schenker recorded a team-leading 12 kills with just one error in 18 attempts (.611).

In the second semifinal, second-seeded Mount Saint Vincent overcame a slow start to defeat third-seeded Polytechnic, 27-30, 30-26, 30-20, 30-25.  Guerrero finished the match with 31 kills.
