2009 All-Skyline Conference Men's Soccer (PDF)

SUNY College at Old Westbury senior forward Fabian Santibanez was named Skyline Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Year for the second straight year. He becomes only the second player in Skyline men’s soccer history to earn Player of the Year honors twice, joining Brian Marks of Stevens (2003, 2004). Santibanez led Old Westbury in both goals (11) and assists (12), finishing fourth overall in the conference with 34 points. He recorded two multiple-goal games and three multiple-assist games during the season. Santibanez ranked 11th in the nation in assists per game while leading the Panthers to the finals of the Skyline tournament.

St. Joseph’s College freshman forward John Dettori was selected as the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year in men’s soccer. Dettori was the top scorer in the conference as a freshman, recording a league-leading 19 goals. He also finished third in assists with nine en route to a conference-leading 47 points. Through games of November 1, Dettori ranked 12th in the nation in points per game (2.32) and 11th in goals per game (0.95). Twelve of his 19 goals came during Skyline regular-season play, including hat tricks in victories over Maritime, Mount Saint Mary and Yeshiva. Dettori earned Skyline Rookie of the Week honors on three occasions this season.

St. Joseph’s College senior midfielder Adam Rogers was selected as the Most Valuable Player in leading the Golden Eagles to the Skyline Conference tournament title. Rogers scored three goals in two tournament games, including game-winners in both the semifinals and championship. He scored the first two goals in the team’s 6-1 win over NYU-Poly in the semifinals, putting St. Joseph’s ahead 2-0 at halftime. In the championship game against Old Westbury, he headed in a cross off the foot of freshman Doug Kane with 9:57 left in regulation to give the Golden Eagles their first lead of the game, 2-1

Polytechnic Institute of NYU third-year head coach Nate Kalin was selected as the Skyline Conference Coach of the Year by his peers. Picked ninth in the Skyline Conference preseason poll, NYU-Poly finished in fifth place, earning the school’s first postseason tournament berth. The Fighting Blue Jays made the most of their opportunity with a 1-0 win over SUNY Maritime in the quarterfinals of the Skyline tournament. NYU-Poly recorded one of the top turnarounds in Division III this season. After going 2-13-4 in 2008, NYU-Poly went 10-10-1 this season with a roster consisting of primarily freshmen and sophomores.

Yeshiva University was selected as the recipient of the Skyline Conference Team Sportsmanship Award in men's soccer after displaying outstanding sportsmanship throughout the 2009 season.
