St. Joseph's rallies past Old Westbury en route to second straight Skyline Conference men's soccer championship

CORAM, N.Y. - Top-seeded St. Joseph's College scored a pair of second-half goals, erasing a 1-0 halftime deficit en route to a 2-1 victory over third-seeded SUNY Old Westbury on Sunday in the championship game of the Skyline Conference men's soccer tournament.  The Golden Eagles earned their second straight Skyline title and NCAA Tournament bid.

The second consecutive title did not come easy for St. Joseph's, which had not lost to a Skyline Conference opponent in nine games leading up to the championship.  Each of the past two years, the top seed has been knocked off in the final, and when Edwin Mejia scored in the 27th minute off a rebound, it appeared that the Panthers might be on their way to knocking off another top seed.

Old Westbury carried its 1-0 lead into halftime, but St. Joseph's, which had allowed only one goal during Skyline regular-season play, pulled even when Stephan Zaech scored off a deflection in the 55th minute.

With just under 10 minutes to play (80:03), senior Adam Rogers headed in a cross from freshman Doug Kane, to put the Golden Eagles on top to stay, 2-1.

St. Joseph's held a slim advantage in both shots (13-11) and corner kicks (5-4) in a game that was nearly even statistically.  Michael Dougherty stopped six shots for St. Joseph's while Darian Bryan made five saves for Old Westbury.

NCAA Tournament pairings will be announced on Monday, November 9.
