Bard College sophomore Nick Chan, last year’s Rookie of the Year honoree, has been selected as the Skyline Conference Player of the Year in men’s volleyball. Chan, who played both outside hitter and setter in Bard’s system, averaged 3.14 kills along with 5.19 assists per set. He led the Raptors in kills (286), assists (472), service aces (43), and digs (195) while ranking second in total blocks (61). Chan, who also ranked in the top 10 in the conference in every category, led Bard to its second Skyline tournament title in the last three years.

Purchase College freshman outside hitter Peter Witkowski was selected as the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year. Witkowski, who selected as Skyline Rookie of the Week on two occasions during the regular-season, finished second on the team with 213 kills and a 3.38 kills per set average, which was good for fifth in the conference. He also ranked seventh in the conference in service aces per set (0.38). Witkowski also averaged 1.40 digs and 0.46 blocks per set for the Panthers.

Senior outside hitter/setter Henry Schenker was selected as the Most Valuable Player in leading Bard College to its second Skyline Conference tournament title in the last three years. In two tournament matches, Schenker totaled 30 kills, 58 assists, 27 digs and four block assists. In a four-set win over Yeshiva in the semifinals, Schenker had 17 kills along with 35 assists. He then had 13 kills, 23 assists and a team-best 16 digs as the Raptors outlasted Mount Saint Vincent in five sets to capture the Skyline championship.

Despite losing a pair of first team All-Skyline Conference performers from the previous season, Bard College head coach Mike Abalos was able to direct the Raptors to their second Skyline Conference title in the past three seasons. Abalos led Bard to a 15-12 overall record, including an 8-2 mark in conference play. Bard’s only two losses in Skyline play came in four sets to Mount Saint Vincent, but the Raptors rallied to beat the Dolphins in five sets in the tournament final to win the championship.
