Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's tennis team captured its second straight Skyline Championship on Saturday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over fourth-seeded Purchase (10-4). The seconf-seeded Rams received the conference's automatic bid to the 2012 Division III Men's Tennis Championship and will await word of their opponent on Mon., May 7.
Farmingdale State (12-5) swept the doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. The No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Christian Bormann and freshman Justin Vijungco won 8-4, followed by the No. 2 doubles team of junior Ryan Musalo and Alex Bessarabov. The third doubles tandem of sophomore Joseph Falcetta and freshman Jimmy Lopez won 8-3.
In singles play, Bessarabov remained unbeaten in the Skyline Tournament with a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Falcetta posted the only other win at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win. All other matches went unfinished as the Rams won the fifth match.
Bessarabov was named the Tournament MVP after posting a 4-0 record this weekend.
